1. About the Department

The Faculty of Political Science came into existence with the establishment of Kalpataru College in 1962. It gained a place of importance following the efforts made by the founder Principal Sri.J.R.Mahalingiah as a lecturer in Political Science. He played a sufficient role in seeking the aid of Philanthropists for spitting up Kalpataru College and laying a stone foundation for the development of the faculty.

Sri.J.R.Mahalingiah was succeeded by Sri H.T.Ramakrishna as the Head of the Department. He served as a competent Teacher and writer till 1988. His books became very popular and met the needs of students all over the state afterwards Sri G.C.Chindegowda served as the Head of the Department till 1994 later Sri M.Nanjundaswamy succeeded him as the Head of the Department above all Sri B.C.Maleshappa and Sri G.B.Shivaraju worked as lecturers and contributed to the Development of the Department.

Sri D.Puttavenka has been working as the Head of the Department. Because of the health problem he had expired on 1.12.2009. At present Sri G.R.Rangaswamy and Sri.S.M.Gangadharappa are working as Guest Lecturers. The Department is equipped with a library, a computer an employment information Bulletin.

A three days State level workshop of Political Science teachers was held under the faculty of Political Science. The Chief guest was the Vice- Chancellor of Tumkur University Sri O.Anantharamaiah, Sri Kodandaramaiah, participated in it as a representative of the Karnataka Government.

About Pallagatti Adavappa Arts College Tiptur
When the Kalpataru Vidya Samsthe Trust was formed in 1962, to administer Kalpataru College, it offered all the three streams of arts, science and commerce. The college flourished for two decades until the strength exceeded 2,500 students. The college had to be bifurcated according to the directions of the collegiate education. So, an independent college for the Arts and Commerce streams was established in the year 1982 and was named after the founder president and philanthropist, Pallagatti Adavappa, while, the science college retained the name Kalpataru.

Kalpataru Vidya Samsthe, an important centre for higher education has dispersed knowledge to the local rural masses for nearly six decades and has grown from strength to strength over these years. KVS is instrumental in putting Tiptur on the map of the academia. Today, the Management is flourishing with eight sister institutions one more reputed than the other.

[In 1982 because of huge strength the Kalpataru College got bifurcated as Pallagatti Adavappa Arts and Commerce First Grade College and Kalpataru Science College].
