Brief History of
Department The Department of
Psychology was established in the year 1962
along with the inception of the college. It
started with the able leadership of Prof. M.
Sujaya who is also the founder member of the
organization. Though it began with minimum
students, it expanded enormously under her
guidance.
Prof. N. Nanjundappa an alumni of our
college joined the department as a faculty
member, and eventually became the Head of
the department and the Principal of the
college before he retired. Dr. A. R.
Krishnamurthy, appointed in 1974 was known
for his counselling skills in the college as
well as in public. He guided many M.Phil.
and Ph.D. students. He was instrumental in
bringing post graduation centre for our
college.
As the department grew bigger, Mr. V.N.
Basavarajappa Dr. V Malathi, Dr.
VijayaKumari TR, T G Chandrashekar and A M
SatishChandra were appointed. Dr. Malathi V.
who joined the department in 1989, later
became the Head of the Department after V N
Basavaraju and she is the principal of the
college , at present. She counsels students
as well public. She guides students in
academic improvement, to cope with peer
group pressure, societal pressure, and
personal problems to understand themselves
better and to face life in a meaningful way.
The Department of Psychology has excellent
laboratory facilities. We have four labs
with proper equipment. Since the inception
of our department there is no dearth of
equipment. We have Audio-Visual teaching
aids like LCD projectors T.V., V.C.R., O.H.P,
Slide projector and good old tape recorder.

About Pallagatti
Adavappa Arts College Tiptur
When
the Kalpataru Vidya Samsthe Trust was formed in
1962, to administer Kalpataru College, it
offered all the three streams of arts, science
and commerce. The college flourished for two
decades until the strength exceeded 2,500
students. The college had to be bifurcated
according to the directions of the collegiate
education. So, an independent college for the
Arts and Commerce streams was established in the
year 1982 and was named after the founder
president and philanthropist, Pallagatti
Adavappa, while, the science college retained
the name Kalpataru.

:
Kalpataru Vidya Samsthe, an important
centre for higher education has dispersed
knowledge to the local rural masses for nearly
six decades and has grown from strength to
strength over these years. KVS is instrumental
in putting Tiptur on the map of the academia.
Today, the Management is flourishing with eight
sister institutions one more reputed than the
other.

huge strength the Kalpataru College got
bifurcated as Pallagatti Adavappa Arts and
Commerce First Grade College and Kalpataru
Science College].
